It sounds like it would be too sweet, but in the cease it is simply perfect. Great for the upcoming fall and winter seasons, fantastic aromas you lot tin use up to 3 lbs of short ribs, with this recipe.
01/07/2013
I would definitely sear the ribs first next time and would as well exit the water out of the sauce. The flavor was really practiced, simply we prefer a thicker sauce.
03/19/2013
I bought pork ribs and went to set them for the boring cooker in the morning when I realized that I did non have BBQ sauce! I never made BBQ sauce from scratch earlier then I checked Allrecipes.com similar I always do. I chose this one because I had all the ingredients on mitt. It was VERY adept! I doubled the recipe...and I added a teaspoon of cayenne pepper to give it a little spice with the sweetness. I would do as another poster said and omit the water. Information technology was also liquid for me, I like a thicker sauce. Oh, I also added some honey. Its non too sweet at all. I would actually add more brown saccharide side by side time, and honey, along with the cayenne pepper. This is a bang-up base BBQ sauce to tweak however you like! I also baked the ribs outset like I always do. And I added a big onion to the crock pot. Cooked it on low for seven hours and it was delish! =)

Good and easy...

I was going to give this recipe a 5 star rating but realized that wasn't off-white because I had to make several changes. Like other reviewers I removed the h2o. I besides seasoned the ribs and threw them on the grill to get a overnice caramelization on all sides. I like to phone call this dish my "everything but the kitchen sink ribs." I have done this recipe before and it turned out neat! This time I used brownish sugar, molasses and love (since they were all in the cupboard). I added the juice from 1/2 an orange (considering it was in the refrigerator). I used 1 tin can of love apple paste and 1 tin of tomato sauce (I doubled the recipe and didn't have 2 cans of paste). I threw in some garlic and used apple cider vinegar (becuase I think it gives it a ameliorate season). This recipe is a nifty base of operations recipe similar other reviewers stated. I recommend you get creative and meet what you have in your cupboards or refrigerator and change it up a footling. Last time I used wasabi mustard instead of regular and it was delish!

This recipe came out terrific. I seasoned the ribs with salt and pepper then seared them on all sides before calculation them to the Slow Cooker. The searing fabricated for a prissy, caramelized chaff on the exterior of the ribs. Cooked these for 7 hours on Low. There was some grease and so I but absorbed it off the top using tongs and a newspaper towel. Super!
05/04/2013
My family loved this. I did make some changes based on previous reviews: Seared the beef short ribs in olive oil. Beer instead of h2o, Added: dear, cayenne pepper, dried onion. Toward the end, I thickened the sauce with some flour/cornstarch. Served it on some rice.
03/26/2013
This was super like shooting fish in a barrel and super good! The only change I would make for next fourth dimension would exist to NOT add the water, because it actually thins out the sauce. I took the advice of other reviewers and seared the meat for a few minutes earlier adding them to the tiresome cooker. Also, I would trim the fat beforehand, because information technology was messy to try and practise it afterwards. Yummy, thanks for the recipe!
05/04/2013
There was way besides much sauce and I even used 3 lbs of ribs instead of 2. Good flavor, just too much. As well, I don't know if it was just the ribs I got or if all beef ribs are this style, just there was no meat on them! After they cooked, in that location was nigh an inch of fat in a broad half dozen qt. slow cooker and maybe a bite of meat on each rib, if that. Very disappointing.
08/26/2014
I prepared the sauce in a sauce pan before adding it to the ribs. I simmered it a bit to reduce the liquid. I seared the ribs first, then poured almost half of the sauce on the ribs in the slow cooker. The rest of the sauce we used for dipping. I really cooked the ribs on low for over 10 hours. They fell correct off the os and were first-class. The flavor of the sauce on the beef ribs was terrific.
01/18/2013
Piece of cake and really good. Made as directed, except I did brownish my ribs before putting in crock pot.
06/07/2014
I've made this several times and it's always a hitting. I eliminate the water and use apple cider vinegar. I also sear the meat beforehand. I'chiliad not the best cook but I get this i right every fourth dimension.
10/07/2012
Elementary, like shooting fish in a barrel, and tasty. Definitely a winner! I didn't have an oven to work with where I was cooking so a number of the other deadening cooker recipes that required pre-braising and the like didn't work for me. I fabricated information technology pretty much exactly as written except for cooking on high for about 5 hours. Everyone enjoyed it and I'll be adding it to my regular repertoire.
03/24/2013
Delicious. Made it 2 days in a row! Yesterday, I pretty much followed the recipe, except I didn't have vinegar so I substituted it with apple juice. Today, instead of 2 lbs. I made five lbs. using the same measurements. There was plenty of sauce and the beefiness ribs were fantastic. My hubby, his brother, and female parent all loved it! Thank you!
10/05/2013
I'm realistic and realize that slow cooker ribs are not going to be as adept as grilled, however these are so easy, tender, moist and tasty, they are very, very respectable and well worth the endeavour. I used bison ribs and it worked out extremely well. Adjacent time I'll sear them on the grill before serving just to get a footling of that char flavor.
11/05/2014
Succulent!! Per others' advice, I seared the beef earlier manus and omitted the water. I really used 4lbs of "brusk ribs." (from my feel back ribs yields little meat with a lot of fat). I first seasoned the beef with some salt and black pepper. And then I seared information technology. I used the same amount of sauce and in that location was nevertheless plenty for all the meat. I did try to remove extra fat from the meat before getting started. Yummy
01/xv/2014
Awesome! I followed the recipes exactly, except I only added about one/4 h2o, bc I similar thick sauce. I cooked these on warm for about x hours, bc my crockpots low setting stil sometimes gets too hot. Side by side time I may use pork ribs, bc beef ribs arent my fave- too much fatty and inappreciably whatsoever meat. Served over rice with extra sauce, super yummy!
09/19/2012
I added half a onion and used apple tree cider vinegar instead (because thats what I had). Cooked information technology on high for two hours and and then on depression for about 4.5 hours. The sauce never thickened, in fact it was more of a liquid. Definitely had a more tomato taste then BBQ. Still practiced though!
07/07/2013
Nice recipe. I gave the brusk ribs a short roast to brown on the gas grill, because it was a hot mean solar day.Used my ain BBQ sauce recipe. Then, added to the crock pot. I did more ribs than indicated in the recipe, so it wasn't too much sauce. In my "slow cooker" it took well-nigh 1 hour on high and v hours on low to achieve tender perfection, without over cooking.
02/24/2015
Great beginner recipe. The BBQ sauce tin be tweaked in many different ways to suit many different tastes. I added some liquid smoke to mine and it turned out fantastic, fifty-fifty my picky 5 year erstwhile loved information technology and kept telling me how smashing my dinner was!! Still, I like a thick BBQ sauce, so next fourth dimension I will be leaving out the h2o or at least cutting it dorsum. I doubled this recipe and made 5 pounds of ribs, in that location was a ton of leftover sauce, so I kept it to play around with and utilize on some other meals. Served with baked potatoes, pork and beans, and rolls.
01/20/2014
Actually really practiced I must say. I Followed all the instructions as directed ,simply thing I did different was sear my ribs with crushed black pepper. I gear up my crock pot on high " I was printing for time" later iv hours the meat was falling off the os ....sauce was great!
10/23/2012
This was delicious! I only did a couple of things different. I used apple tree cider vinegar because that's what nosotros had, added a niggling pepper and garlic powder.
06/06/2016
This was my starting time time to cook BBQ ribs. I was looking for an piece of cake recipe to apply in my slow cooker and ran beyond this one. I followed the recipe to see how it would turn out. It turned out to be a cakewalk to make and tasted terrific. Highly recommend this recipe.
06/29/2013
I love the recipe merely I added apple cider vinegar instead of whit vinegar. It adds a much needed kick to the sauce. Requite it a try. Cheers.
12/07/2014
Only made this recipe, and information technology was superb! Even my finicky husband said information technology was a "keeper". We had very fatty ribs, so when the meat was ready & cooked, I de-boned and scrapped as much fat off that I could then scooped upwards the grease. Past the time I finished, the sauce had thickened and I served it over rice- yum, yum! Adjacent time I might experiment with reducing the sugar a little, to cut calories. I can see adding pineapple chunks, bong peppers, and even orange to this. Thank you so much for a wonderful BBQ sauce base, just as it is! Love it!
03/11/2015
This is a actually good method, next time I make this I volition be sure non to let the leftovers sit down in the sauce. The taste was also stiff, side by side time I will remove from sauce and place in a separate bowl.
07/24/2013
Not the recipes error past whatever ways, but bought 1/ii beef & ended upward with odds & ends not sure what to exercise with-aka short ribs. Looked upwardly recipes to make them & this looked pretty practiced. Would take probably cooked longer to get more than tender. Way too much bone, fatty, gristle, etc on the meat for our taste. A lot of waste on this cut of meat. Next time I'll tell the butcher to go along or throw abroad. Similar I said, not the recipes fault, only absolutely won't impact again with a ten foot pole.
eleven/18/2012
Great Ribs I did use country pork ribs instead
02/ten/2014
Save this sauce to use on everything!!
02/23/2014
Very tasty! I made this for dinner today and my whole family loved it! I seared the ribs showtime but otherwise followed the recipe. Yeah, it is is fatty and I skimmed the fat off but nosotros are using ribs so that's to be expected. The sauce is so good that I will use it as my go to barbeque sauce for other dishes too. Thank you fir the recipe.
01/26/2014
Recipe was ok. I followed some recommendations in reviews. Exit out the water and sear before putting in slow cooker. Fifty-fifty without the water sauce was a niggling too watery for my liking. I as well added about 1tsp of cayenne (could've used a little more than) to add together some spice. I used balsamic vinegar. I didnt season ribs but highly recommend it. Someone else said it perfectly, " recipe is good base to start from." Will try it again with some additions and see how it comes out.
02/01/2014
Tender equally a mother's love! Nosotros didn't take 8 hours to wait, and so we went iv hours on Loftier. Perfect over rice, with sauteed green beans on the side. We will definitely make this again.
08/14/2014
Delish. I too would omit at to the lowest degree one-half the water and peradventure add some garlic. I used 3/4 Dijon mustard and 1/4 hot English mustard. I might make it half and half side by side fourth dimension. Too I'd recommend making it the night earlier and skimming off the fat the next morning equally the ribs are very fatty. I served information technology with light-green beans and rice since it needed some vegetables.
04/16/2013
I just tried this recipe yesterday and information technology turned out fantastic. I think next time I may cut dorsum on the mustard or use Dijon instead. I am non a huge fan of mustard and yous can definitely smell information technology and sense of taste some of it. At that place is a impact of bitterness to the BBQ sauce simply nothing that would overall ruin the dish. I would definitely brand this dish again.
01/twenty/2014
Succulent. I used a scrap over four pounds of ribs (viii ribs total). I used red wine vinegar and subbed coconut palm sugar for brown sugar. Delicious even my picky eater liked it!
07/24/2015
I made this for a potluck and it was a hit. Even improve the longer and slower you melt it- don't be agape to go upward to 12 hours on low heat.
08/12/2014
I loved the simplicity of the bootleg bbq sauce!! I did modify the mustard for honey mustard and used beef broth instead of h2o, instead of regular vinegar i used apple cider vinegar. Information technology was a sweet kind of bbq sauce. Mayhap next time some paprika would be so tasty!!!
04/09/2016
Thanks Sharon! While this is a not bad recipe as is, I fabricated a few minor changes that I believe improves on the original. First, I never use the h2o; it comes out fine without information technology. Second, add a little Worcestershire sauce, a sprinkle of liquid smoke, and a diced onion. Third, quickly brown the meat before adding to tiresome cooker. Go for the long booty with the wearisome cooker, 8-x hrs on low. I too smoke a lot of meat and oft baste some of what I cook the last hour or so with some of this sauce. I just cook the sauce down for nearly one-half an hr and it works great. Sometimes I brand information technology a twenty-four hours in accelerate. The sauce is skillful served along side smoked or grilled meat.
12/26/2014
Was it a Grand-slam...most just not quite! My married woman and I enjoyed it and would probably make over again. I took the advice of others and left OUT the i cup of water, which was a wise decision, TY all for that tip. But I am wondering if they would exist even better if one substituted the 1 loving cup of ketchup, with one cup of BBQ sauce? Overall it was very good, only I just wanted them to exist a tad better, but I tin can see why soo many exercise enjoy them, as everyone's tastes buds are dissimilar....We ate all the ribs, so nosotros did not suffer, lol
01/17/2018
I also, as others did, omitted the h2o. I added half white vinegar and half apple cider vinegar to make i/2 loving cup. Made the balance as written, and heated on the stove to melt the brown sugar (it was a rock). I too added some honey, but then it tasted too sweet and ketchuppy, so I added common salt, pepper, two capfuls of liquid fume, and a few shakes of cayenne pepper and smoked paprika. Perfect. Oh, and I also browned the ribs first in olive oil after seasoning with salt, pepper, and Montreal steak flavour. Yum.
11/12/2014
Cut h2o by 1/2
02/01/2018
Mode as well potent on love apple. Did not fifty-fifty resemble a good barbeque sauce. Not good at all.
03/07/2018
Fantastic--don't look whatever farther for some other home charcoal-broil sauce!!! I only gave this a 4 instead of a 5 rating considering of the modifications I made reading other reviews. I used 1/4 c water (the crock pot generates enough water during the cooking process and it would h2o down the yummy sauce if more than than this amount of water is used), I added ane/four c onion and 2T dearest. I also seared the ribs first. It took 7 hours on low to cook and I got raves!!!!!!! Information technology is admittedly delicious. I used pork and beef ribs.
08/02/2013
Fat.
05/08/2015
I was very like shooting fish in a barrel, we had all ingredients on hand, but I would non make it again.
09/25/2016
Too much sauce, the vinegar taste was overwhelming. I normally like every recipe on all recipes, but not this one.
11/06/2014
This was a hit tonight i add a piffling cayenne pepper and information technology was perfect.
07/08/2014
Did simply as said, only also left out water it makes the sauce thicker :)
07/01/2016
We buy Smithfield baby dorsum rib. We par boil and cease them off in the oven. The are actually good and full of meat. I can but eat 1/2 a rack. We employ Sweet Baby Rays Charcoal-broil sauce. Tommy
01/xiii/2016
Great recipe. Easy to brand. I used pork instead of beef... Much cheaper. Great. Whole family loved it. Served over brown rice
06/12/2016
This is great for dorsum ribs but brusk ribs require much less cooking time so just be aware of that.
04/24/2016
I made the recipe as it is......and would not change a thing. Did not use the sauce took the ribs out and served every bit it is. Served with mashed potatoes . We are non sauce people simply to cook in. Very, very skilful!!!!! No changes made.
07/30/2014
Tried this and information technology was admittedly delicious. Only matter I did different was I added 1/2 cup of honey for a piffling more than sugariness. Meat was so tender afterward 8 hrs.
08/eighteen/2019
It'due south good. I used pork ribs instead of beef ribs which worked well. BBQ Sauce was good only I'thousand going to try it with my homemade next time. Would definitely use this recipe again.
04/14/2016
Fabricated this with beef brusk ribs. Too much liquid and besides sweetness I seasoned the raw ribs with salt, garlic pulverization and pepper and then seared in the broiler until merely caramelized before putting them into the tedious cooker. To the pot I reduced brown sugar to 1/2 cup, swapped water with 3/four cup of apple cider vinegar. I added 1 large sliced onion, 2 Tbsp hot sauce and 3 gloves of minced garlic and 2 tsps. of liquid smoke. Let cook for 8 hours and they were delish!
05/21/2017
definitely need to at least cook for the four hours, eight on depression would be perfect, a little too much mustard
04/05/2014
I but kept mine on for seven hours and the ribs are SO dry. Sense of taste was good... Volition do like some other reviewer and set my tiresome cooker to warm for 10 hours. I also only used about 1/4 loving cup of water and also added some cayenne pepper. Sense of taste was dandy, but the ribs were so dry, so it kind of ruined the meal for me. Will review again when I endeavour it the new way. Thank you for posting the recipe.
06/01/2014
Loved this recipe Piece of cake to put together Easy to consume I added some hot sauce to the mix This go my yum yum
09/22/2014
Excellent. I did braise the ribs on the stovetop before adding to the wearisome cooker (just I braise everything). Very simple to make and fall off the os delicious. Tin't wait to make once more!
06/28/2014
Very tasty and truly simple. Ribs always intimidated me ... no more!
01/01/2016
I loved the season and tenderness of the meat. I was low on ketchup then substituted Webers BBQ Real Molasses sauce for ketchup. I had lots of sauce left over then probably could take added another half pound of ribs.
06/05/2019
Simple and delicious! I added a bit more sugar and a little less vinegar because I love a sweet bbq sauce. Serve with rice and its a great meal. **Best to cook on low, then the beef tin can fully absorb the ingredients and tenderize properly.
02/xiii/2014
Astonishing! My first time making ribs. And so easy and they feel off the bone a tasted delicious. My young man keeps asking when I'm making them again!
08/31/2015
OH MY GOSH... Is all I can say. I generally stay away from crockpot recipes bc they don't e'er turn out swell. This is an exception. Super piece of cake to brand and autumn off the bone delicious!! I only added 1/4 cup of water bc we leave information technology in the crockpot for 10+ hours and I didn't desire information technology to dry out. Really really good!!!
02/04/2015
My husband said these may be the best bbq ribs he has always had. I seared them in the oven with lots of seasoning before slow cooking.
07/14/2019
The only alter I made was to drib the ketchup to 3/4 of a loving cup then add i/4 cup of Ketchipolte. Then went with Apple tree cider vinegar. Added a perfect spicy bite.
11/28/2016
Cooked for the holidays and some serious ribs fans loved them. Like many other reviewers, I made several changes to the bones sauce. We like thicker sauce that'southward more than sweet than savory, so I cut downwards the liquid past over one-half and used chicken stock instead of water. Even though I doubled the sauce recipe for about seven lbs. of ribs, I still used only 1/2-c chicken stock. Substituted apple cider vinegar for regular and used only 2/3-c for the doubled recipe. Used iii/4-c brown saccharide and added three/iv -c dearest (sounds super sweet, but information technology wasn't). Other additions (few dashes each to-gustatory modality) -- cayenne pepper / garlic powder / onion pulverization / cinnamon / Worcestershire sauce. I cooked downwardly the sauce to thicken it and set one-c aside for dipping before calculation the rest to crock pot with ribs. Finally, I cooked ribs on depression for 6 hours, permit the pot cool and skimmed off fatty earlier reheating to serve.
01/05/2016
I am a Senior (really senior) woman, and just like expert food, but dearest EASY. I made the short ribs, followed the recipe, however, put in ane/2 cup of water instead of 1 cup. The raves were sensational, but couldn't reveal to my guests how piece of cake information technology was. Thank you for sharing...
03/26/2018
This was very bland. In that location is no seasoning, basically the only flavor that it had was a ketchup tomato flavor. In no fashion at all can or should this be called BBQ anything. I tasted the sauce earlier I started cooking and and then tried to season it upwardly to resemble a bbq sauce but it did not help. It was edible merely I volition not arrive again. We were very disappointed.
11/16/2014
My husband asks for our beef ribs to only be cooked this way at present. This recipe is easy and tastes fantastic
08/30/2016
OK, information technology came out great, I would cut water back to i/2 cup, I also added 1/4 cup Texas Pete hot sauce, i TBS liquid smoke, and 4 TBS honey barbecue sauce. I cooked on high in wearisome cooker iii ane/2 hrs and then iii hrs on low, meat brutal right off basic, regular beef ribs (2 Lbs)
eleven/25/2018
Amazing! And so, I didn't have the prepared mustard. I used boneless beef ribs, had at that place os bones they would have fallen off:) So tender & the flavor was great! Will make again, very soon.
01/10/2015
Very proficient! I omitted the water based on the other reviews. I didn't have any lycopersicon esculentum paste so I used tomato plant sauce. The sauce was a piddling too ketchup-y for me and so I added another 1/four loving cup of brownish saccharide and that helped a lot.
02/03/2018
Easiest recipe ever. Meat fell off the bone. Served it on acme of mashed potatoes. And so expert!
02/21/2016
Used 1/4 loving cup of Sriracha instead of a whole cup of ketchup, in the pressure cooker for 40 mins. Turned out Astonishing!
08/17/2018
I have no idea where all these other reviewers are coming from. Have you ever plant an quondam ketchup parcel, opened it and the first thing that hits y'all is that obnoxiously strong vinegar aroma? Yeah. That's what this is similar. I followed these directions to the letter, and information technology tasted like warm vinegar and ketchup. This was no resemblance of BBQ sauce. Pungent and runny. Wasted perfectly good boneless beefiness ribs. Just goes to show yous, some recipes and reviews but can't exist trusted. I'll definitely detect a different recipe next time.
02/nineteen/2015
One Give-and-take, Corking.
09/x/2015
This recipe is peachy! The ribs came out so tender. I made a few changes though. I used apple cider vinegar considering that's all I had. I cutting the saccharide to 1/2 cup and I reduced the h2o a petty. I also added ane onion, ane apple tree, some carrot peelings, cayenne pepper, paprika, crushed red pepper, a few cloves of garlic, and veggie seasoning. I think the sauce was a little sweet for ribs for my families gustation, but we ate information technology the side by side day on dwelling house chips and it was fine. A few days later we had it on chicken and it was great. I volition reduce the saccharide more than side by side time to make up for the water reduction. There is a lot of sauce, merely that is keen because you can freeze it and use it afterward.
12/19/2012
Easy and succulent!
04/22/2015
this recipe was okay. I prefer a thicker saucer. other than that the taste as there and the ribs were tender.
01/23/2018
Not a favorite Not even going to try again. I doubled the recipe, had to feed guests. It was tasteless. The ribs for some reason were dry
07/02/2016
I would start the ribs on the fire, then move to the slow cooker. But I idea the sauce was Way too sweet. Not a recipe I will do again.
11/12/2017
So I did Not like the sauce. I did every bit others said and seared the meat and omited the water. The meat was perfect and tender. All the same, the sauce was atrocious to me! It tasted like brown sugar and vinegar, which information technology basically is! Adjacent time I will only use commercial BBQ sauce.
03/22/2014
A oversupply pleaser, fifty-fifty for those who practise non usually eat meat loved this recipe. It was perfect served over homemade mashed potatoes! And I was free to actually enjoy the visitor.
07/nineteen/2013
I currently have this in the crock pot. I used beef side ribs and added 4cut upwards garlic cloves and a dash of cayenne pepper. and a dash of blackness pepper. wilk let you know how information technology turns out.
01/22/2018
Absolutely loved this dish. Used a bottle of hard apple cider instead of h2o and seared the 4 lbs. of beefiness. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband had seconds and there's enough for leftovers today!
05/18/2018
Didn't intendance for the sauce. Adjacent time nosotros'll use our favorite bottled sauce.
12/08/2017
Actually good and easy Thumbs upward
x/17/2015
I substituted lemon juice for the vinegar and used a spicy cafeteria mustard instead of the prepared mustard. These were amazing!!! Then tender and the BBQ sauce was delicious. I thickened information technology slightly with corn starch earlier serving
07/18/2017
I used one/2 cup dark-brown sugar and no table salt. I figured the ketchup had enough salt. Picky son says "yous can make this everyday, forever".
04/22/2018
My family unit loved these, but i finished them off with n the oven basted with a honey soy bbq sauce,
02/03/2018
i didn't take pics of it, but this is a very good recipe, i fabricated pork ribs with information technology and they came out super moist and meat falling off the bone. my family loved it
03/14/2016
Bang-up recipe. Will brand it GAIN
05/14/2015
So good!! . Best ribs ever.
01/twenty/2020
This was awful.
02/23/2020
Horrible Ketchupque! Nosotros followed this recipe to the letter. The results were atrocious. The olfactory property is nauseating, a miasma of oily meat and Heinz ketchup. The sauce leaves a sickly-sweet aftertaste that coats the natural language for hours. The meat was dry out and initially shocked the tastebuds with an unpleasant sweetness that finished with a disagreeable vinegar tang. Overall, the dish is more like bad Sauerbraten than barbeque. What a waste of expert beefiness ribs. Nosotros won't be making this i again!
07/28/2014
Love this sauce!!!!
02/26/2018
The meat fell off the os and it tasted slap-up!
04/09/2019
Nosotros never had any success cooking ribs before I found this recipe. Did it exactly as the recipe chosen for, except left the slow cooker on high between 6 and 8 hours, depending on the time nosotros got them ready. We establish that by cooking them on high for a longer time, the meat just falls off of the ribs as we take it out of the dull cooker, So no chewing it off of the bones and not equally messy to eat. They accept a cracking taste.
